When we look at out bodies, it really is a reflection of one’s life. And everyone is slightly different and in a way that is a visual view of what makes us who we are.
When we see our reflection we may see a scar the knee from when you fell off your bicycle when you were learning to ride at the age of 4. Or it may be the scar of a life saving surgery. There may be stretch lines of the dieter or mother. The limb that was lost in the auto accident or the dedicated soldier. A breast that has been lost or reconstructed due to cancer. The body art of tattoos.
The idea behind this project is to show and honor the body as part of life. It is as much of an Art Project as anything else.
How that can be accomplished with photographs? I am thinking that part of the project would also be getting an oral history of the person, where they been and what the ‘blemishes’ mean for them. And work together to have photographs taken in a manner that honor those ‘blemishes’.
Of course since this is to be a project of photographs, I need to find some people who would be willing to have me photograph them. So if you happen to be interested please contact me.
The project is still in its infancy.
