Recently I was asked for a couple of locations on MD Eastern Shore to take Day Trips. I recommended Chesapeake City in Cecil County.
Since that person was beginning in Annapolis we discussed some of the small towns on the trip. Mainly the ones on MD Route 213.
Here are a few photos of what you can see on a trip from Annapolis to Chesapeake City. These were taken over the past few years. Some were shot in the summer, but not all.
Before you cross the Kent Narrow’s Bridge, take Exit 41 to Main Street and there on your right is the Waterman’s Memorial.
Instead of following US301 to MD213 take the Rt18 exit at Queentown towards Centreville. The Memorial will be on your left, about halfway between Queenstown and Centreville. If you see the 4-H Park, you’ve gone too far.
Centreville is a lovely little town and it’s worth the stop to just to see this. There are also a couple of nice resturants across from the Court House to have a late breakfast.
Halfway between Centreville and Chestertown is the town of Church Hill. Due to Covid-19 the Theatre is closed, but it’s worth the short side trip off of MD213 to see the theatre.
One of the many attractions in Chestertown is the Fountain in the center of the town’s park. The town, which dates back to the late 17th Century is on the Chester River and was one of the area’s earliest port towns.
Did you know that when the United States completed the county’s first Census in 1790, the Population Center was near the town.
On one side of the Sassafras River is the Kitty Knight House and on the other is Fredricktown. As you can see the Harbor has some beautiful sunsets.
There are quite a few Highway Historical Markers on MD213 in Kent and Cecil County. Greenfield, just before Cecilton is one of them. Greenfield is a Georgian-style brick house built about 1770 and on the Historical Register.
