Wall Art

2020 brought a change to me as a photographer. Prior to 2020, I thought of myself as a photojournalist. As for many the ‘virus’ has required me to look inward and re-evaluate. It’s taken some time, but I am now thinking of myself more of a Fine Art Photographer along with doing Artistic Portraitures and Personal Branding Photography.

Some of my Fine Art Photographs are available at Fine Art America.

More are available at the Eclectic Gift Shop -103 West Sunset – in Greensboro, MD

Here are a dozen of my favorites photographs.

I hope that one will become your favorite photo hanging on your wall. Each is available as a custom printed unframed print. Sizes are 8×10 (with 11×14 Matt) at $30, 11×14 at $50 or 13×19 at $100 send an email to me at photos@shoretobefun.com

Photo: Butterfly in the Thistles

This was taken just as summer of ’19 was turning into fall at Eastern Neck Island. When I gave a 7 inch square of of the photo to the Small Works show at Queen Anne’s Centre for the Arts, I had simply titled it Butterfly. They remarked how wonderful the thistles and the butterfly looked together. Now I think of it as “Butterfly in the Thistles”.

Photo: No Ice Skating

2015 was one one of the coldest winters on the Delmarva in recent memory. It was nearly zero during President’s Day Weekend when I ventured out in the cold to capture some icy memories. I was in Wilmer Park in Chestertown when I saw this sign. I had seen it many times before, but never noticed that it read “No Ice Skating”.

Photo: Court House in Spring

Before court activities moved to the new Court House for Queen Anne’s County in Centreville, this Court House was the oldest still in service. It also was in the Ragged Old Flag Super Bowl Commercial. This is from the Spring of 2016, not all that much before it was filmed for that commercial. This is simply “Court House in Spring”

Photo: Sailboats

The Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay has a love affair with “Sailboats”

Photo: Reflective Creek

Capturing natural reflections is not something that look for, but when I find them I try to capture the beauty. This one of Morgan Creek, outside of Chestertown, I believe was the first. I call this “Reflective Creek”

Photo: Lights on the River

And here is another reflection taken during Downrigging weekend in Chestertown in 2018. The day before it had rained and even most of the day when this was taken. Earlier in the week, I had captured a similar shot. This one was much better. “Lights on the River”

Photo: Harbor Sunset

I have had the opportunity to capture quite a few sunsets. Enough to have a Greeting Card set at Chesapeake Country Roads – Cards and a Calendar. This is my favorite, “Harbor Sunset”.

Photo: Hebe Sunset

I I think of this more as an artistic work than a sunset, although it was also in the Sunset Calendar. Hebe is the goddess that sits atop of the Fountain in Chestertown. This was taken during a Music in the Park concert. Most of the audience was sitting in a way that they probably didn’t see the clouds as the sun set that evening. Sometimes I call it Hebe Sunset, but also “Hebe and the Golden Clouds”

Photography by SG Atknson: Icy Hebe

Icy Hebe – November 11, 2017 was one of those mornings that the temperature dropped below freezing unexpectedly. Usually the fountain in Chestertown is turned off before the first freeze, it wasn’t and the fountain water froze giving us a very unusual and amazing show. It was by pure accident I was able to shoot this photo. I had a morning commitment and as I was returning home that early afternoon something told me that I should go the Fountain Park. This was the sight that I saw.

Photo: Day is Done

This is one of those that has been in a previous Gallery Shows. Once upon a time the Town of Rock Hall as well as other Chesapeake Town’s economies were from harvesting the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. At the end of the day’s work on the water their boats are at the dock. While there are still watermen in Rock Hall, with workboats still in use, it’s a life that is disappearing. “The Day is Done”

Photo: Flying Freedom

Flags are a favorite of mine to photograph. This flag flies on the Sultana in Chestertown and I just think of it as “Flying Freedom:

Photo: Girl in Thought

And in closing, something a little different. This is an example of an Artistic Portraiture. I call this “Girl in Thought”.

Many of these Fine Art photographs are hanging in the shop in Greensboro, Maryland as Canvas Prints.

I also my photographs available on Greeting Cards. See more about them at ChesapeakeCountryRoads.com/Cards
