How was your first six months of 2022?
If yours was like mine there has been some successes and also some disappointments.
I’ll start with the successes. One of them was my Photo Project Chesapeake Country Roads. In January I wasn’t clear on what to do with it. By the beginning of March the project came into better focus. There was a goal to join with with a proposed Tourism based site, Explore Chesapeake Country. One of those disappoints was that project was put on hold.
Another disappointment has come with rising costs. The Eastern Shore, while in ways is small, its large enough that it takes time and gas to venture out. From my home in Chestertown Cambridge is more than an hour’s drive. Kent Island, Easton and Denton is 45 minutes. I have needed to curtail on photographic trips. Although I will say with my volunteer projects, doing photojournalist photo shoots, and building my business scheduling has become an issue as well.
And this is one of the successes. When I look at the photo shoots I have done so far in 2022 and those that are on the schedule, I have had more than all of 2021. I just hope that with the current economy that doesn’t change. As the saying goes, only time will tell.
I am at the point in not only my business, but also in my life, that I am very flexible in pricing. I will work with my clients to give them what they need at a price that is affordable.
Let’s talk a bit about vacations. I do offer a Vacation Photo Package where I can photograph a couple, family, or just you where all members of your party can be in the photograph without having to consort to the dreaded selfie. See more at Document your Vacation on the Shore.
Looking ahead to the 2nd half of 2022 there will be some twists and turns, but generally the path is clear.
One of my goals for the remaining of the year is to update my portfolio photos and will be looking to do a few portfolio building photo sessions. Some of these include personal branding, head shots (business as well as personal), maternity, senior, empowerment, and boudoir. I am certain I can make you an offer that would be hard to refuse. I am also thinking about doing a workshop on Branding which would include how to use photos and what photos you are allowed to use.
I am already scheduled to photographs a few events, corporate as well as festivals. But there are still plenty of opening in my schedule. It’s not too early to begin discussions about your upcoming Holiday Party.
The other day I was thinking about how the concept of Black & White (B&W) vs Color has greatly changed over the past few decades. Even when Color became the standard in motion pictures and photographic art, creating art in B&W was done with purpose. I, as a child, saw this progression from B&W to Color and have never been a big fan of B&W. However, I am having a change in attitude and am going to begin taking some of my landscapes and portraits and see how they look in B&W. I’ll be posting most of these on my Patreon page.
Summer is also a great time to do an Artistic Photo shoot. It’s basically a Portrait Session, but one with a twist. One leaning more towards Fine Art than just a standard Portrait. Any type of photo that we want to create. I see this process as a collaboration. It could be something you want to create. Or maybe even try to recreate, such as a treasured childhood photo with your siblings, or a classic photo.
Are you an aspiring model?
I am always looking for those who would like to experience what it’s like to be the subject in a creative photograph. And what better time for that then in the summer when you are feeling happy and free.
