Since 1991, thanks to Indian photographer OP Sharma, photographers around the world have been celebrating World Photography Day on August 19th.
Why August 19th? It was on that day on 1839 that the French Government announced the invention of the Daguerreotype process of photography and gave it as a free gift to the world.
Photographs capture a moment in time. A photograph can convey an emotion, an experience or bring back a memory. There is always a story. Sometimes even one that may not have anything to do with the actual photograph, but one created in the viewer’s mind. It’s been true for the past 180 years and will continue to do so long into the future.
To celebrate World Photography Day I’m sharing my favorite photograph. It is far from a perfect photograph and perhaps nowhere near my best work. But still one I have always loved. I call it “Breaking Through”. Yes I have a story that goes along with it. I’ll, however, leave the story to your imagination.
