Every year I have selected 12 photos for a Calendar of Delmarva Scenes. For a couple of reasons I decided not to do one this year. However as 2020 comes to an end and the new year begins, I decided to select 12 of my 2020 photographs, one for each month, to share. All of these have the common theme of nature.
The Rock Hall VFC hosts an event they call ‘The Big Dip’ at noon on New Years Day. It’s a fundraiser of the company as they collect donations before they take a dip in the cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay. While there I usually take a photo of the beach and bay which is why I call this ‘First Day at the Beach
‘Hanging Out’
Until this year I haven’t spent a lot of time at Eastern Neck Island NWR. In February I decided to hang out for a little while on the island.
Just a few days before Maryland’s Governor Hogan made his March announcement at the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, I attended the Harriet Tubman Day activities at the Tubman Visitor Center in Church Creek, Dorchester County. There’s a short path behind the center where a couple of trails begin. This is the view. ‘Dorchester Trail’
With the stay at home orders from the Governor, I didn’t get out to take any photos in April. This one of a tree in my side yard was taken in late March as the tree was beginning to bud into its ‘Spring Clothes’.
Finally in May I began to venture out. One of my favorite places to go is Betterton Beach, where this view was what I saw ‘Looking Out Onto the River’
I don’t go out looking to photograph reflective scenes, but when I see them I do try to photograph them. Not only are the trees reflective on the water, it’s nice to look at be just be ‘Reflective’
It doesn’t take a study to know that agriculture is a big part of life on the Delmarva. In July I was visiting an area farmer and admired the scene that he sees from his barn ‘On the Farm’.
Labor day was just a few days away when I took a ride just to see what I could see and take a few photos. ‘Clouds and Trees’ was one of them.
As I mention earlier I ventured out to Eastern Neck Island this year, many of those trips came in September. ‘Welcome to the Island’
I have been to Chesapeake City many times these past few years and captured many shots of the canal. But until this October when I joined a couple of old friends for a Canal Cruise, I hadn’t had the opportunity to see any ‘View from the Canal’.
Another reflective view from the same place that ‘Reflective’ was shot. This one in the fall and a classic ‘Fall View’
Most of my December photos were of the Non-traditional Holiday Trees in the area. As discussed in those posts, Double Woods is one of those Holidays Traditions in Kent County. This is one of those ‘Double Woods Christmas 2000’ photos.
Happy New Year!
