Wow! Sometimes it takes a fresh look at something familiar to realize how much it needs attention.
The other day, I started looking at my website, SGAtkinson.com, and realized it was long overdue for a refresh. I hadn’t done much with it in a couple of years, and it was time for a change. I asked AI to evaluate my homepage and offer suggestions. It came back with plenty of ideas! Over the past few days, I’ve been working through those recommendations and making improvements. I think the website is looking much better, and even AI agrees!
The 15 months have presented some challenges. I’ve dealt with some health issues that kept me from working even the 25–30 hours a week I had hoped to put in while enjoying semi-retirement. Thankfully, I’m ready to get back to work! Of course, with today’s gas prices, I may have to be a little more selective about how far I travel.
Looking back, I also realize that I’ve spent a great deal of time running a gift shop and, then operating my Photo Art Gallery at 108 Market Street in Denton. Much of my marketing effort has focused on gift items, and while some feature my photography, that’s not where my greatest opportunity lies.
My Chesapeake Country Fine Art Photographs deserve to be front and center. They capture the beauty, character, and familiar places that make Maryland’s Eastern Shore so special. These photographs are what I should be promoting as the heart of my business, not allowing them to take a back seat to gift items.
With the holiday gift-giving season approaching, I’m ready to change that. I’ll be putting more effort into marketing my photographs through my website, social media, local connections, and other opportunities to reach people who appreciate the Eastern Shore.
It’s a new season, a renewed focus, and a chance to share more of the images I love creating.
