Icy Kent – March 2018

It’s not uncommon for an artist to have a Gallery Show. Currently I do not have a Gallery, nor am I associated with one. But I thought it would be nice to create what realistically is a Gallery Show to be posted online here on my Web site.

This is the first of what I see one of many Online Gallery Shows. How often will they change? Perhaps a new one every month? Every 6 weeks? Every Season?

My goal is to have a new one once a month to debut on the first Friday of each month.

My first Online Gallery Show is:

Icy Kent

Just after the New Year of 2015 there was a drastic drop in temperature. It dropped to around zero very quickly and stayed below freezing for some time. Before then I hadn’t been all that interested in getting what I would term as ‘Artistic Winter’ photographs. Since then I have at times gone out to take a few winter photos in Kent, Maryland, my home county on the Eastern Shore.

Icy Hebe – 2017

November 11, 2017 was one of those mornings that the temperature dropped below freezing unexpectedly. Usually the fountain in Chestertown is turned off before the first freeze. This year it wasn’t and the fountain water froze giving us a very unusual and amazing show. It was by pure accident I was able to shoot this photo. I had a morning commitment and as I was returning home that early afternoon something told me that I should go the Fountain Park. This was the sight that I saw.

Icy Chesapeake

On President’s Day of 2015, I started on what I had hoped would be a Photographic Journey around Kent County. When I left to go Rock Hall Ferry Park Beach for my first stop that morning, it was just above 0. When I returned to my truck to go to my next planned stop, I turned the key to start the engine, and nothing. The battery had decided it was too cold. I was able to contact a friend who gave me a jump. But it was the end of my day’s adventure. I figured it was time to get a new battery. That was the only time that the battery wouldn’t turnover the engine that day and that winter. I did replace the battery. Nearly two years later.

Boat at the Snowy Dock

A few days later I continued on that photographic trip. This one is at the dock in Betterton.

No Skating

Wilmer Park in Chestertown. I had walked pass this part of the park many times, but I had never really looked at the sign. Since there really has been few times recently that the Chester River had froze over, I had never really thought about skating on the river. Some one had.

Silo?

This one is a fairly recent one shot just a few weeks ago during one of the two inch snow storm we have had this winter. You could say this was a created shot. The snow had banked on a hill, and probably had been added to it by the snow plow. I got close to the ground creating an illusion of the top of the silos of a nearby farm just above the snow. Amazing how angles can make a two inch snow fall look like much more.

A Snowy Sunset

In January of 2017 we had a small snow storm and I was able to get this Sunset. Most of my sunsets have been of the sun setting on the Chesapeake, this one though is on land.
