Reflections and Reflection – May 2019

It has been awhile since I have put up a Gallery Show. And this one has taken almost that entire time to do. One of these photographs ‘Reflective Clouds’ being taken at the beginning of May 2019 and another ‘Better Days’ just a few weeks earlier in April.

In a way you can look at these as two different sets of photographs. The first are three color photographs reflections off of the water.

The second, a series of Black and White photos that could be as ‘a Reflection of life Gone By’. Two photographs with abandon old houses and the other of Chesapeake Work Boats that are still used, but are disappearing as a way to make a living on the Bay.

Lights on the River

Downrigging is one of the big annual events in my hometown of Chestertown at the end of October. Tall ships come to call. Saturday it rained, but by night the rains had stopped and although it was still overcast the lights on the ships looked wonderful against the dark sky behind them.

Reflective Clouds
You can have the idea of a photograph in your mind for awhile, plan and wait for it for a long time. Sometimes you can accidentally come upon something when you aren’t even looking for it. This was one of those times.

Sunset Reflection

Sometimes as the sun sets it puts off light that when reflected off of an object makes for an amazing sight. It was the Friday Night before Memorial Day in 2017 when the light of the sunset reflected off of the Sultana, docked in Chestertown. Many saw it that night since it was also the opening of the annual Chestertown Tea Party Festival and there was a block party happening at the foot of High Street.

AND NOW FOR THE BW

Days Gone By

An old barn, a vine covered silo and an old truck. Close your eyes and you can see what how it may have looked 50 to 60 years ago.

Better Days

I had passed this old house many times with the thoughts that I should stop to capture it. Spring was budding when I decided to stop. Even though it looked nice, it wasn’t until I converted it to B&W that I really fell in love with it.

Done for the Day

Once upon a time the town’s economy was from harvesting the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. At the end of the day’s work on the water they are at the dock. While there are still watermen in the town, these workboats are still in use, it’s a life that is disappearing.
