Let’s Tell Your Story

Every Picture Tells a Story

Each picture told a story; mysterious often to my undeveloped understanding and imperfect feelings, yet ever profoundly interesting.
Charlotte Brontë – Jane Eyre.

Since the early days of photography, photographs have been considered to tell stories in ways that words struggle to tell. Photographs capture the emotion of that instant. Emotions that can be recalled and can last forever.

Everyone has a story to tell. We often think of firsts as the stories that need to be told. And this is true. It’s not unusual for us to hire a photographer for those firsts, a baby’s first birthday, when they become a teen, sweet 16, graduation, engagement and weddings.

At the Chesapeake ShoreThere are surely more moments later in life that should be captured in a photograph. Celebrating getting a new job or retirement, a day at the beach watching the sunrise or sunset, just a day you feel wonderful to be alive.

These stories should be told as well.

True it’s just a slice in time that is preserved. A picture will remind you of your life at those times, the smiles of friends and the life that you’ve had. Yes, it may have been in a hundred different directions, some better than others, but there will be memories when you look back on them in the future. You may be looking at them with a grandchild and they will see you in a different light.

What the photographer chooses not to show in a frame is even more important than what is shown. Snapshots by friends with cameras often have issues such as bright backgrounds with the primary subject dark, unsightly objects visible, or simply not in correct focus. These are all factors that a professional photograph avoid.

I, as a photographer, can help with the development of the story you want to tell in the the photographs. Some of these factors are the setting, the emotion, and dress.
